Soccer Team Wins Over Maine East

Mr. David Winter's Warriors defeated the Demons of Maine East, Saturday, by a score of 1‑0. Early in the first quarter Gary Helminski '72 dented the nets for Maine West, and that's all that was needed for the victory. Steve Jacobsen '74 turned in an excellent performance at the halfback position, leading the defense to a wall which was unbreakable to the Demons. The Demons also had trouble keeping the ball in our zone, as Scott Ritchey '73 along with Al Tuckey '73, made it tough for the struggling Demons.

Steve Jacobsen also stated that Gary Helminski and Al Tuckey made the defense what it is now. "The defense throughout the season has been an important one," says Steve, "but, the offense cannot have any credit taken away for their great talent."

In an interview with Steve he also said that "the team is a lot closer than it was last year. We get along now that everyone knows what they're doing."

The Warriors stand at 3‑3 in regular season play. Their conference record is 1‑0 and it definitely will improve.

Mr. Ron Brown's freshman team was defeated by a score of 5‑2. Marion Hoffman and Buddy Dorskin did the only scoring for Maine West. Coach Brown blamed the loss on the lack of defense. He also stated that the team would improve if the defense improves.

Sophomores took it on the chin with a surprising 2 to 1 loss. They hope to do better against New Trier West and the remainder of the season.
