VOL. XIV, NO. 3
OCTOBER 20, 1972

WE'RE OFF

October 23 will be a school holiday for students of the Maine Township High Schools. This is the date set aside for the national observance of Veterans' Day and the date specified in the official District 207 calendar for the 1972‑73 school year.

School officials have announced that the Maine high schools will celebrate Veterans' Day on November 11 next year. Recent legislation, passed during this session of the General Assembly and signed into law this past summer by Governor Richard Ogilvie, provides that, in Illinois, Veterans' Day shall no longer be celebrated on the fourth Monday in October but shall be observed on November 11 instead.

PARENTS GET INVOLVED

Parents of students attending Maine West were invited to attend the Parent‑Teacher Council organizational meeting held on Thursday, October 5. Members of each class council elected its officers and members to serve on the Parent‑Teacher Council Executive Committee.

JUNIOR TESTING

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be offered to all Juniors on Tuesday, October 24.

1962 CLASS REUNION

The Maine West Class of 1962 10‑year reunion will be held at the Casa Royale Restaurant here in Des Plaines on November 25. According to Donna Scherer Longwell, co‑chairwoman of the reunion committee, over 400 reservations have already been received.

BUSY BOOSTING MW

The Maine West Boosters have had a busy year. Through various fund‑raising efforts they have been able to present a new batting machine and back‑stop to the athletic department and have purchased jackets for the gymnastics team.

CELEBRATE WITH PIZZA!

Don't forget A.F.S. Pizza Day is November 4; first quarter ends November 3; and Open House is to be held on November 2 (A‑L) and November 9, (M‑Z) at 7 p.m. On both days periods 7, 8, and 9 will be shortened with school being dismissed at 2:40.
