Which Girl Will Reign As Queen?

On October 6, the 1972‑73 Homecoming Court was announced during a senior homeroom assembly, in the auditorium. The court consists of nine girls, of which one will be crowned queen during halftime of the varsity Homecoming game on October 20.

The nine girls are Mary Badalamenti, Sue Carr, Diane Jonasson, Diana Myszkowski, Gail Nygaard, Lori Rowells, Sue Slater, Sue Tipton, and Diane Venema.

Each girl was questioned as to what her reaction was when she heard her name called at the assembly and each girl gave the reply that she was shocked.

Diana Myszkowski, '73, admitted, "I am glad to see kids who never made anything get on the court. I think that most everyone was surprised at the results of the court."

Mary Badalamenti replied, "I was speechless. I was sort of embarrassed because I wasn't ready for it!"

An unbelieving Sue Carr said, "I didn't realize that it was my name. A friend sitting next to me said, That's you; that's you!"

Another one of the nine potential candidates, Lori Rowells, said, "My first reaction was to put my head down and take off my glasses. I was blushing like crazy and I started to cry."

Happy and excited Diane Venema replied, "I couldn't believe it; I was speechless."

Diane Jonasson, also unbelieving, said, "I didn't believe it was me! I never expected it, but I'm glad the other girls made it because they all deserved it."

Sue Slater, who almost fell on the floor, said, "I'm still shocked, I'm so glad because now I can wear a formal. I never did before!"

Sue Tipton answered, "I wondered who voted for me. I felt the opposite of what I would have felt like if I hadn't made it!''

Gail Nygaard didn't attend the assembly because she was out of town but was told by her mother. She said, "I talked to my mother for 10 minutes before she told me about it! When she told me, I screamed!"

The parade this afternoon leaves school at 3 o'clock, and it will also be held between the sophomore and varsity games tonight. The dance, "Victory on Parade," will be tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets for the dance can still be purchased in the bookstore for $2.50. The band featured at the dance will be Ross Anderson Band. The winner of the float-building competition will also be named at halftime.
