If an election were to be held tomorrow at Maine West, I'm afraid Senator McGovern and President Nixon would be unable to defeat their greatest adversary - apathy.
It appears that many students know little about either candidate and make no effort to learn anything about their stands on the issues or their records. It is hard to understand how people can have no opinions on how the problems in our country should be handled.
The problem must stem from the lack of interest in the election at home, for I have noted that many students who support a candidate do so because their parents do, and rarely can give more than a one sentence reply when they are asked to justify their support.

Other students, when queried as to which candidate they support, will fire back this question, "What difference does it make if I can't vote?"
It makes a big difference, for there are ways to show support for a candidate other than in a voting booth.
Volunteer. Go to downtown Des Plaines and offer your services for McGovern, Nixon, or the candidates for lesser offices.
It is as simple as that, and it is a good opportunity to learn about politics and meet people. In short, involvement in a political campaign is a great opportunity to broaden your horizons.
