DESERVING PRAISE
Senior Kathy Degenhardt and Su Sciez have indeed performed remarkably well in nation‑wide competition to receive the NCTE Achievement Awards. Kathy and Su, both products of Maine West's accelerated and advanced placement English programs, brought Maine West the distinction of having been the only school in the district to have both a winner and runner‑up. Congratulations!
BE GENEROUS!
The Canned Food Drive for the Des Plaines needy, sponsored by Student Council, is now in progress and will continue through November 17. Students can donate food by giving it to their homeroom representatives. A Penny Drive will be held in the cafeteria beginning November 13. All money and canned food will be delivered to the needy families during Thanksgiving week. So help out!
MAKING HISTORY!
The Social Science Colloquium, a new organization, has been formed in the Social Science Department. The colloquium is open to students who received Social Science awards last year. The main objective is to establish better relations between the history department and its students through rap sessions, field trips, etc.
ARGUING AGAIN?
The 1972‑73 Debate squad is drawing up plans and researching for evidence to prepare themselves for upcoming tournaments. This year's topic is Resolved: That all public and secondary education be financed by the federal government. The team will compete at Evanston High School tomorrow.
STREISANDS OF TOMORROW
Girls' Ensemble, made up of 14 girls, was chosen at the beginning of the year of Mr. Theodore Varges. The ensemble participates in various concerts held by the Music Department. Corrin Bergquist '75 is the president of the ensemble.
