ASSEMBLY BEHAVIOR IS DEPLORED
Dear Editor:
This letter concerns all the people who attended the speech given by Mr. Dan Walker on October 30. I was ashamed of the conduct of the student body.
Regardless of what a candidate says, and whether or not you are for or against him, I personally feel it is not necessary to boo or stomp feet.
Mr. Walker stated he "was having fun," but I can't help but wonder what he really thought about Maine West students.
Was Mr. Percy given this same treatment? I imagine so. I heard that students got up and walked out during his speech when the dismissal bell rang. Were they really interested in hearing him, or was this a means to get out of class?

SOCCER TEAM THANKS SUE ANDERSON
Dear Editor:
On October 21 the soccer team played their last home game for the 1972 season. We were battling for second place in our conference against Niles West, who was ranked ninth in the state. The weather was terrible as it continuously rained and remained cold throughout the day. Where other sports would have cancelled their game, we couldn't and tried to warm up in our saturated uniforms. Varsity cheerleader Sue Anderson showed up, in her cheerleading uniform, before the game started ‑ when we didn't even expect the referee to show up.
Niles West played the game according to the weather, and we fell behind early. Despite the cold and rain, Sue Anderson remained at our sides and tried to promote spirit in us. Her enthusiasm kept us going throughout the game. We didn't pull any miracles, but we did manage to stay with Niles West in the slippery mud, so they couldn't run up the score asthey did against their other opponents. We feel that Sue Anderson should receive some recognition for standing by us in the rain, mud, and cold.
In short, the soccer team wishes to express their sincere thanks to varsity cheerleader Sue Anderson.

FOOTBALL PRICES TOO HIGH?
Dear Editor:
I would like to comment on the ridiculous prices charged to students in order to see a home football game. If a student does not have an activity ticket, he is asked to pay the sum of $1.50. This is to see one game.
The students from the visiting school are required to pay only $.75.
I would like to know why this should be, since more students would go to the games if the price was not so ridiculous ....

WHERE IS THE VICTORY BELL?
Dear Editor:
On behalf of the sophomores who sit at the 50‑yard line at every home game, we would like to thank Claire Robertson aid the varsity cheerleaders for the fantastic job they did at our last two home games. They really kept the crowd going, whether we were winning or losing. They showed us real school spirit. I would like to know why the victory bell isn't brought out for the sophomore games.
Mr. Jobst presented the bell to the school; he said it was to be rung at every game ‑ male or female sport, as long as it was a victory. Yet it has only been rung at varsity games.

TAKE AWAY THE BAND?
Dear Editor:
It seems to me that many persons have been criticizing the band. I think it is great that Maine West has a band that performs at pep assemblies as well as at football and basketball games. If Maine West did not have a band, I don't think we would be able to have great pep assemblies with enthusiasm that we now have. Without the band playing at football and basketball games; how many people would sing the pep song without some musical instrument playing?
On Friday when Maine West played Deerfield on a wet, soggy, muddy, and slippery field, I heard someone bellow, "You guys ‑!" Let this person join the band. Let's see if he can carry an instrument and look straight ahead without knowing that maybe on his next step he could fall in three inches of mud. Let's see if he would still do it.
I am not a band member, but I feel proud to have a great band at Maine West.
