Soccer
Freshman Player Is From Poland

One of the most interesting new students here at Maine West is freshman Marion Hofman. Marion arrived here seven months ago from Warsaw, Poland. Upon entering Maine, he joined the soccer team and has promptly become one of its biggest stars. Marion leads the team in scoring with nine goals and has registered the hat trick once, against Maine North on the tenth of October.

Mr. Ronald Brown, head coach of the team, said of Marion in an interview, "When we get foreign players they usually say that they are offensive, but Marion is our first true offensive star and is a hard worker." Marion stated that soccer is the number one sport in Poland, as it is in all of Europe. As a matter of fact, it is the number one sport in the entire world.

He spoke highly of our soccer and said that it is the best, but that Polish soccer is much more physical. He also commented on the difference in the school systems of the two countries and admitted that he was surprised at the size of Maine West and, with a smile, at the attractiveness of the girls. Marion has also been impressed by the friendliness of the faculty and students.

Although he has proved himself to be an above average soccer player here, Marion stated that in his native Poland he didn't even make the team that his grade school ran. Well, that certainly isn't true here. He has already accepted the affectionate nickname of "The Polish General" along with establishing himself as a veritable Bobby Hull of soccer.
