Fall Sports Award Night Was Held
in Auditorium

This year's awards night for all participants in any fall sport, was held in the Maine West auditorium. Participants of football, soccer, and cross country received either their numerals or letters. Parents were invited to attend.

The evening began by giving the usual speeches. Mr. Herman Rider, principal, attended the award‑giving night.

The Maine West cheerleaders and Pom-Pon girls all put on a fine exhibition situated on the stage. The freshman cheerleaders started the action. Alter the freshman girls, the sophomore cheerleaders followed. The junior varsity and varsity put on a little more complicated showing. The Pom-Pon girls put on a floor show.

After all the festivities the awards were presented to all the athletes. Freshmen received their numerals. The numerals signify the year in which the athlete graduates. The sophomores received their shields if the athletes participated in half the games or placed highly in a meet.

If an athlete does not, he then receives a certificate to show that he has participated. Junior varsity athletes receive a J.V. letter. At the varsity level athletes receive a large varsity letter.

At the awards night many all conference players were named. Receiving football honors were Bruce Terry '73, Chris Bouchee '73, Rich Wetendorf '73, and Dave Rumzis '73. Cross country honors went to Chip Barbour '73. Soccer honors were garnered by Gary Helminski '73, Al Tuckey '73 and John Anderson '73.

Refreshments were served in the cafeteria after the awards presentation.
