Tankmen Open Season;
Not Too Late To Join

They're off with a splash! The swimming season officially began with two victories for the varsity team.

The first two meets were held November 22 and 25. Maine West scored victorious over Proviso West 58‑37 and over Waukegan 63‑32 in the varsity division. The sophomores swam also, scoring 31‑62 and 32‑61. The freshmen scored a victory along with the varsity squad by scoring 54 to 41 against Waukegan but lost to Proviso West 2‑1‑71.

The boys have reacted to their practices seriously and are off for a good season. Athletic director, Mr. Kenneth Olson, has said, "They are working hard for the season and have a good spirit. They will do well under their new coach, Mr. Darrell Green."

Some of the top varsity swimmers include: Larry Bierwirth '73, Garyt Dahl '73, Greg Lambrechts '73, Rick Landuyt '73, Tom Rasch '73, Ken Myers '73, Bill Samp '74, Paul Dyer '74, Jeff Storer '74 and sophomore George Erickson.

Top sophomore swimmers are Doug Benton, Rick Paulson, and John Aggleand. Seniors John Stanonis and Rick Weaver are two top divers.

Not too many boys have shown up for swimming this season. It's not to late to join although the first few meets have already taken place. If interested see Coach Green - sophomore and varsity - or Coach Peder Dahlberg - freshmen.

Doug Benton '75 agrees with his coach in that this year's team doesn't have the depth it did last year, although there are several strong individual swimmers. This means that they will have some top standings in the state championship but maybe not quite a good meet record.

The swimmers will have a home meet tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. It is to be a double dual against Elgin and Elk Grove.
