The Maine West swimming team is off to a good start with a 4‑1 record. In their first home double dial meet on Saturday, December 2, the team enjoyed a double victory against Elk Grove and Elgin. Against Glenbrook North December 8 the tankmen suffered their first loss by a score of 61‑34.

At their home meet against Elgin and Elk Grove an overall good performance was shown. Elgin, who they figured to beat easily, were toppled over by a score of 72‑23. However, with Elk Grove things were tense. The outcome of that meet wasn't decided until the final race which was the 400 free style relay team. Final score was Maine West 51, Elk Grove 44.

Varsity divers, Rick Weaver '73 and John Stanonis '73, came through with the 1‑2 that the team was hoping for to provide them with the margin of victory over Elk Grove.

In their defeat over Glenbrook North, varsity tankmen Garyt Dahl '73 and Larry Bierwirth '73 recorded their best times for the season, Dahl in the 200 and 400 freestyle and Bierwirth setting a school record in the 400 freestyle with a 4:05.0, breaking the old record of 4:05.6 by Dave Dettman '72.

Sophomores against Elk Grove and Elgin were defeated by scores of 51‑43 and 52‑43.
