Wandering Warrior

Do you think final exams are necessary? My or why not?

Greg Busse '74 ‑ No, teachers should be able to evaluate you before finals.

Ken Funk '73 ‑ Yes, because that's the only way the school knows what you remember over a long period of time.

Brenda Blanchette '74 ‑ No, because you have a whole year to get the grades you need for the semester. At the end of the semester, the teacher gives you a great big test, one and one-half hours long; and this counts as one‑fifth of your grade. Besides it takes you six hours to study for it, and you're supposed to remember what you learned five months ago.

Tom Collins '73 ‑ No, it's not a true judge of what you got out of a class. It should be based on our tests.

Paul Burchard '74 ‑ No, because some teachers take the final as one or two‑thirds of the grade, when it only takes 45 minutes to take; that's kind of ignorant.

Deb Henkes '74 ‑ No, a student accumulates grades during the year, and his final grade shouldn't have to depend a great deal on one single test. It's a waste of time.

Phil Vaccarello '73 ‑ Yes, because it gives the borderline students a better chance to pass the classes.

Joe Thimm '73 ‑ No, because people get nervous before a final and don't do well on it. You shouldn't be judged by just one test because maybe you did bad on that one test and that will hurt your grade.

Rich Wetendorf '73 ‑ Yes, because in some courses it is important to determine the student's final grade.

Mr. Don Smith ‑ In every case a final should be left to the discretion of the individual instructor. However, I do believe in keeping the finals schedule.

Beth King '73 ‑ No. For a person with good grades it's pointless.

Bob Knowles '74 ‑ Yes. Take math for example. I know my grade depends on a final. So I study for it, and it forces me to learn. You can fake it on most tests, but not on a final.

Mr. Barnes ‑ Yes, in U.S. History AP it helps the students prepare for the AP exam in May.

Scott Gibbert '76 ‑ No, because one test should not be used to prove your ability. The teacher should use the test on the separate sections of the course.

Jim Pabich '74 ‑ No, because one half of the things you learn you will forget in a year.
