Carlos is hosted by the Shekerjians. West's new American Youth Exchange (A.Y.E.) student. Arriving here from his hometown of La Paz, Bolivia, shortly before Thanksgiving, Carlos will remain until late February.
Carlos is hosted by the Shekerjian family. His host brother is Mark '76 and his host sister is Carole '74. His real family consists of his architect father, artist mother, and 16-year-old brother.
In La Paz Carios attends a Catholic, all boy school. He boards there during the week and returns home on weekends. At his La Paz school there is no choice of subjects. Carlos has studied the English language for five years.
Carlos finds Maine West slightly confusing because of the language barrier and because of Maine West's large size. Nevertheless, Carlos is enjoying his stay.

Here he is enrolled in trigonometry, U.S. history, sociology, concert choir, Spanish and a special English program designed for foreign students.
Since Bolivian seasons are directly opposite ours, Carlos is currently on his summer vacation. He will return to La Paz for his senior year. Carlos intends to attend college to become an agricultural engineer.
Carlos Sanjines says of Maine West, "The people in this school are special. The teachers are all good people. In Bolivia there are some schools like this, with orchestra, chorus, the gymnasium, and so on.
"In the seven weeks that I have been here I have seen the U.S. different than the people in South America think about life in this country."
