That Kind of Person

By JILL GERSHON

There are people you meet on the road of life
And you welcome them with a smile,
But after a time they drift away
They don't go that extra mile!

And then there are others who come along
And you are glad to have them near,
But as soon as the gain's a little rough
They suddenly disappear.

But once in a while you meet someone
Who's with you all the way,
Who cheers you up when your spirits are low,
And smiles when skies are grey.

Someone who has the secret of saying
"I understand" and who never fails,
Someone who's there when you need them most
To lend you a helping hand.

Someone who helps you say "So what"
When your luck is down the drain,
And who trudges always right by your side
In the sunshine and the rain.

Someone who's ready and willing to share
Whatever they've got,
And who doesn't try to apologize,
If it isn't such a lot.

Someone who helps you to believe
That your awfully bright and clever,
And who makes you feel deep down inside
That they'll be your friend forever.

That's the kind of friend you hope against hope
Will be waiting around the fence,
And I know I was lucky when I met you
Cause you're just that kind of friend.
