The Maine West wrestlers have greatly improved as the season progressed. The grapplers now have a 3‑5‑1 overall record. The Warriors are one and two in conference.
The Maine West wrestlers have come on to a hot streak after a very slow start. Over Christmas vacation the Warriors were invited to the Lake Park Wrestling Tournament, placing a respectable second place.
A week later the West grapplers traveled to Forest‑View High School to face a tough Forest View squad and a weak Luther North team. Maine West edged Forest View and then trounced Luther North. Last weekend the Warriors visited Niles North, beating the Vikings badly.
The Maine West varsity team is beginning to look quite impressive as the season reaches the half way mark. The Warriors have two fine wrestlers in talented sophomore Bryan Real and senior Fred Gano. Both wrestlers have only been defeated once. Last weekend the Warriors faced a rugged Deerfield squad.

On the sophomore level the Warriors are sitting at .500 with an even 4‑4 overall record. The sophomores are 2‑1 in conference.
Over Christmas vacation the Maine West sophomore squad was invited to the Niles East Invitational meet. The Warriors placed eighth out of 15 teams.
When asked if they had done better than expected, Coach Erv Geisler remarked, "No, we expected to have a much stronger team."
The main reason our sophomores are not doing as well is because six of our best sophomore wrestlers are up wrestling with the varsity due to injuries. But when the sophomores become seniors, Maine West will have a potential downstate team.
The sophomore team has some talent in Roger Herra '75, who is undefeated, and Brad Bonniver '75 and Tony Mietus '75, who are also up wrestling for varsity.
