Matmen Out-Classed At
Glenbrook South

The Maine West varsity wrestlers have had their ups and downs this season. Due to injuries and illness the Warriors have lost a few meets that were expected of the Warrior team. Their overall record stands at 5‑6‑1.

Last Friday night here at Maine West the Warriors defeated Niles West by a close score of 21‑16.

Two weeks ago the West Warriors took on Deerfield at Maine West. The West wrestlers beat Deerfield badly.

Then the Maine West squad traveled to Glenbrook South the following Saturday morning. Considering that Glenbrook South is one of the finer teams in the state, the West wrestlers were slightly out‑classed.

The Maine West varsity wrestlers have shown rather well at times throughout the season. The West varsity wrestling team has a sparkling sophomore wrestler in 98‑pound Brian Real. Brian has tied the school record of the number of pins in one season. Fred Gano, a senior, also has shown well throughout the season for Maine West. Fred has only been defeated once. Fred was All‑Conference as a junior and possibly will be an all‑stater this year.

The varsity also has many sophomores on the squad. These include John Bistany, Warren Kelleher, Roger Herrea, Tony Mietus, and Brad Bonniver.

On the sophomore level the Maine West squad has done rather well this season. Two weeks ago the West sophomores took on Deerfield beating them badly. The next morning the squad faced Glenbrook South at Glenbrook, mauling Glenbrook 54‑9. Then last Friday Maine West faced Niles West at home. The sophomores came to a stand‑off tieing Niles West 29‑29.
