Class Council Responsible For Lounge Damages

Last fall a run down, drab study hail was turned into a peaceful, entertaining lounge for the Senior Class. The Student Council spent approximately $1,000 to buy a couch, chairs, ping‑pong table, bumper pool table, game tables, and a juke box. The money came from Council's School Improvement Fund which is primarily the profits from the Student Commons Coke machine.

Profits from the juke box are used to repay Council's Improvement Fund. When the bill is paid, the remaining profits will go to bigger and better things for the lounge.

Seniors are allowed the privileges of the lounge during any of their free periods where they are scheduled into the commons or in a study hail.

The problem lies in the fact that so much of the lounge is being damaged by the carelessness of the responsible seniors for whom the lounge was set up. Equipment is being damaged or stolen everyday. What is the solution?

Earlier this year the lounge was closed down for a short period with the intention that seniors would realize that being in the lounge is a privilege. Most seniors did not like sitting in study halls when they would have normally been in the lounge. This evidently did not help the problem. It seemed like only the students who acted respectful in the lounge were being punished. The ones to blame did not care either way.

The Senior Class Council is now responsible for the welfare of the lounge. The equipment that has been damaged must be replaced from the Senior Class treasury, which is so low that it just might make it through the prom. Keeping up with the damages in the senior lounge makes things worse If you don't care someone else does
