Hoping to take their second win in a row, the Warriors travel to Niles North tonight to take on the Vikings. After beating Niles East solidly on February 2, the Warriors split two games last weekend, losing to Maine South on Friday night and winning at Glenbrook South on Saturday night. Maine West now has a 6‑4 record in conference play.
Against Niles East on February 2 it looked as if the home team might take command early, as a lay‑up by Doug Myers '74 and a long jumper by Joe Prang '73 got the Warriors off to a quick start. The aggressive Trojans fought back, however, and trailed by only one at the end of the first quarter, 14‑13.
A three‑point play by Joe Thimm '73 to start the second quarter gave the Warriors a 17‑13 lead; but once again the Trojans came back, finally taking their first and only lead of the game, 28‑27, later in the same quarter. A jumper from the lane by Thimm gave the Warriors the lead once again, 29‑28, at the end of the half.
Maine West took hold of the game midway through the third quarter, scoring eight straight points to pull out to a 43‑34 lead. In the fourth quarter the Warriors continued to build their lead, with a free throw by Thimm late in the quarter giving them a 23‑point lead, their largest of the game. The final score had the Warriors on top, 68‑51.

Joe Thimm led all scorers for the Warriors with 30 points, while Doug Myers contributed 17 points.
Last Friday night the big, bad Hawks invaded the spectator gym, beating the Warriors, 86‑64. Warrior fans had high hopes in the early going, as Chris Bouchee '73 scored on a lay‑up to give the Warriors a quick lead.
Following a bucket by sophomore center Pete Boesen of the Hawks, the Warriors retook the lead, 4‑2, as Joe Thimm scored on a jump shot. A three‑point play by Bob Westman of Maine South followed, giving the Hawks their first lead of the game, 5‑4.
Maine West then jumped out to a three‑point lead, 8‑5, on buckets by Bouchee and Thimm, but Maine South retaliated with seven straight points to take a 12‑8 lead. A pair of free throws by John O'Connor '74 cut Maine South's lead to six at the end of the first quarter.
Unfortunately, the Warriors never came any closer than six thereafter, as Maine South gradually built up their lead. The halftime score found the Hawks on top, 43‑31, on their way to the 22‑point victory.
Joe Thimm came up with another big night, scoring 31 points, and Chris Bouchee added 12 pts. to the Warrior cause.
