The Maine West Warrior wrestling season is coming to a fine close with District meets next Thursday and Saturday. Tickets will be $1.50 for each meet. The Warriors look very promising for the Districts.
Last week Maine West traveled to Maine South for the biggest wrestling meet of the year. The two archrivals remained quite evenly matched until the teams reached the heavier weight division when West forfeited two weight classes.
The evening started out fast when Maine West's Bryan Real '75 won 7‑1. The West Warriors now leading 3‑0 added three more points when Fred Gano '73 won a tough decision by the score 3‑0.
With the score 6‑0 Maine West's John Bistany '75 went down to defeat 5‑2. Maine South then tied the score 6‑6 when Ed Rappey '73 lost 2‑0. Maine South then jumped into the lead when West's Marc Hoozcko '73 also lost 7‑4. That made the score 9‑6. Maine South then added six more points to make the score 15‑6 when Maine West's Brad Bonniver '75 was pinned.

Maine West then cut the lead to 15‑9 when senior Gary Gunderson retaliated with a 4‑1 victory. Warrior Tony Mietus '75 won on default, making the score 15‑13. West then forfeited the 155 lb. weight class giving Maine South six points making the score 21‑13.
Warrior Dave Lefavour '73 a 7‑0 victory. West's senior Dave again shortened the deficit with a 7‑0 victory. West's senior Dave Wilming also won 5‑1. Maine West then forfeited the heavyweight weight class. The final score was 27‑19, with Maine South walking away with a very important victory.
The grapplers were battling Maine South for a share of the divisional championship but placed tied for second because of the loss to Maine South.
The Warrior wrestlers ended the season with a 6‑8‑1 overall record.
