And they're off. Sweating, running, grunting, and jogging, the 1973 Indoor track season has begun. The first two meets saw heavy action with Proviso West and Glenbrook North. Unfortunately none of the action was in favor of the Warriors, and they lost two meets in a row to these tough teams.
Things changed, however, when on Thursday, February 8, the fighting Warriors charged into the Maine South gymnasium determined to do better and routed Fremd. Score was 62‑38.
Many fine individual performances were turned in at the Fremd meet. A few of the times that helped put the varsity on top were in the two mile, first place score of 9:49 for Chip Barbour '73, and in high hurdles juniors Bill Klippert and David Braun took first and second places with times of 6.4 and 6.9.
The 50‑yard dash saw Bob Chapman '73 and Art Mraz '73 place second and third with 5:8 and 5:83.

In the final varsity action Bill Klippert won the low hurdles with a time of 6.1.
The Frosh‑Soph team also had a good meet, defeating Fremd 60‑40. One of the numerous highlights was the placing of four out of the first five men in the two‑mile. The runners were Paul Mademann '75 who finished the action first. Joe Paul '75 who ended the competition in second place, Scott Swakow '76 who was fourth, and finally Gary Salavitch '75.
