Cindermen Take 3rd at Evanston;
Braun Sets New School Record
Running with all the speed of a gaggle of Alaskan University streakers, the track team recently fought to a third place finish in the Evanston Relays, held on Friday, March 8. The Warriors handed down defeats to all conference schools and were bested only by Suburban League teams Waukegan and Proviso East with 44 and 45 points. The Warriors ended the day with a score of 43.

Senior Dave Braun was one of the team members who fared very well in the competition, setting a new school record for the triple jump. Joe Paul '75 was the first place finisher in the mile run. Bill Klippert '74, the high hurdling ace, had the satisfaction of coming in second. Mark Siska '74 came in fourth in the same event.

The action that afternoon also showed something that has not been done for 10 years: senior Jeff Kiester heaved the shotput 50' 5". Paul Frost '74, Greg Klebe '74, Kevin Skahan '74, and Randy Van Vleck '75 all contributed to a third place finish in the two‑mile relay.

The sophomores were not without first place finishers, either. Mike Klebe, the highjumper for the Class of '76, took first place with a jump of 5' 11". In other sophomore action Joe Farrell placed fifth in the high hurdles with an 8.5; and Joe Pannon, the long jumper, finished the day in fourth place with a leap of 19' 1"
The sophomore mile relay team, composed of Howie Blietz, Scott Breen, Greg Koehler, and Tony Krainick placed fifth with a 3:52.9. In the 440‑yard run, it was Blietz placing again, this time in fourth with a time of :56.5.

Action from the freshmen saw Jeff Bridges capturing first place in the 880 with a 2:08.9. Doing the pole vaulting for the freshmen was Dan Myers, who placed third with an even 9'. Pete Blenner, Jeff Bridges, Tony Krainick, and Murray all helped the freshmen place third in the mile relay with a 4:01.2.

This year three new events have been added to all track meets in the state. The new events are the triple jump, the 330 hurdles, and the 440‑guard relay. In the field of triple jumping Maine West has two, John Whipple '75 and the already mentioned Dave Braun. Braun gave a show of his skill at this event, which consists of three consecutive jumps from a standing start, at the Evanston Relays when he beat some of the toughest competition in the area and won by a foot.
