Maine West's football season may be long since gone, but it is not entirely forgotten as the 1973-74 edition of the Prep All. America Football Yearbook recently named Warrior running back John O'Connor '74 as one of the numerous high school football stars from across the country to be listed.
O'Connor, strangely enough, did not gain a regular spot in the starting backfield until this past season, as he was unable to crack the trio of Scott Smith '73, Dan Myzska '74, and Mike Werner '74 during his junior year. He still was able to keep himself occupied, however, as he handled most of the placekicking for the varsity squad.
With Myzska the only returnee from 1972's regular backs, the road was wide open for O'Connor, whose powerful style of running complemented Myzska's quickness well. Though the way was rough for the Warriors, as they plodded through a mediocre 3-5 season, one bright spot was definitely place kicker turned running back John O'Connor.
Also honored recently was Doug Myers '74, who made the CSL's All‑Conference basketball squad after receiving an honorable mention last season. Given an honorable mention for the Warriors this year was forward Steve Zuccarini '75.
