Brock Akers Wins For 'Bench Beat'
Brock Akers '74, writer of Bench Beat in this newspaper and co‑sports editor, last week was declared a national winner in Quill and Scroll's National Writing Contest in the sports story category. Brock received Quill and Scroll's National Gold Key Award.

Mr. Lester Benz, executive secretary of this international honorary society for high school journalists, said in his announcement, "We sincerely congratulate both your school and this student who has earned this high honor."

Brock is now eligible to apply for one of the Edward J. Nell Memorial Scholarships in Journalism.
This scholarship has a value of $500, to be paid in two equal installments at the beginning of the freshman and sophomore years of study at any college or university offering a major in journalism.
