VOL. XV, NO. 12
Although Des Plaines may not be the fun center of the Midwest, our town has boomed into quite an industrial center, sending products it produces all over the world. On May 8 and 9 the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce and local industries are sponsoring a festival designed to acquaint Des Plaines residents with their town and the industries in it.
"Let's Talk" is the theme of the festival and that's just what 66 industries including DeSoto, DoALL, General Telephone Directory Company, Universal Oil Products, Central Telephone Company, Banner Service, White Collar Girls, City Products, Bade-Marquette, and International Tool Works will be doing when they set up their information booths in the Herman L. Rider Memorial Gymnasium.
A 10‑minute slide presentation on the history of Des Plaines since 1835 is a highlight of the program. Many hours of long hard work have gone into making this festival a success. The Friendship Festival is unique because it is the first time a community has had such a festival any where in the United States. The festival is open to high school students from 1 until 4:30 and to the general public from 6:30 until 10 p.m.
