Senior Qualifies As MW Merit Finalist
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the local winners of their cooperative scholarships recently. One of the winners was Eric Swanson '74. Eric won a $1,500 a year scholarship to the college of his choice.
Semi‑finalists were chosen after the results of the PSAT tests were determined. After the semi‑finalist were notified, they sent in applications to be considered for finalists.
Eric has won many awards during his years here at Maine West. They include: his winning the Constitution contest last year, his membership in the National Honor Society, and his membership in the National Council of Teachers of English Awards for creative writing earlier this year.
Out of 14,000 finalists, only 1,200 were chosen to receive the scholarships. Only 78 were from the Chicago area. When asked how he felt about his award, Eric said that it was no big thing.
