Summer School Dates Set
Summer school dates for the 1974 session have been scheduled. They are as follows: The opening date for all courses is Monday, June 17, 1974. The closing date for three week courses is Monday, July 8; for four week courses, Monday, July 15; for six week courses, Friday, July 26; and for lab courses and seven week courses, the closing date is Thursday, August 1. Summer school will not be in session on Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5, for Independence Day weekend.
The school day will be from 8 am, to 12:20 p.m. daily. Classes meeting less than 120 hours will have a $2 enrollment fee. Classes meeting 120 hours or more will have a $4 enrollment fee.
Twirling Tryouts
Any girl interested in twirling should come to the twirling clinics and tryouts in A‑wing gym at 3:30 p.m. on May 14 through May 17. Clinics will be held May 14, 15, and 16, (Tuesday through Thursday) with the tryouts being held on Friday, May 17.
Eric and Steve Compete for MEMCO Scholarships
Eric Swanson '74 and Steve Kissingler '74, recently participated in the MEMCO Scholarship competition for students with history, economics, and civics backgrounds. The contest was sponsored by MEMCO membership department stores and supermarkets, and was designed for high school seniors who want to further their education at a college or university of their choice.
The contest consisted of an open discussion before a panel of six judges. Each student was asked to make an opening statement, and then a discussion began among the students on a designated topic. This first part of the contest lasted one hour, ending with a question and answer period between the judges and students.
Even though Eric and Steve did not reach the finalist stage, each of them was awarded a $25 scholarship bond and a trophy.
Senior Calendar for 1974
The 1974 Senior Calendar has been announced. These activities are for seniors only.
Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24, has been designated as Senior Week, Monday, May 20, is Farmer Day. All seniors may dress as farmers. Tuesday, May 21, will be Funny Face Day. Seniors can make‑up their faces. No masks are allowed, however. Hat Day will be on Wednesday, May 22. Thursday, May 23, will be Cowboys and Indians Day. Finally, Friday, May 24, has been designated as Late Arrival Day, which is for seniors only.
Final exams for seniors will be held during regular class periods on Monday, June 3, Tuesday, June 4, and Wednesday, June 5. The Senior Dessert will be held on Wednesday, June 5, in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m.
Marching practice will be on Thursday, June 6, at 8:20 a.m. in the auditorium with cap and gown pick up at approximately 11 a.m. on the same day.
The Honors Assembly is scheduled for Friday, June 7, at 8 a.m. Girls must wear dressy dresses, and boys should wear suits or sportcoats and ties.
The Senior Prom is to be held on Saturday, June 8, at 8:30 p.m. at the Michigan Shores Club. Girls should wear formals, and boys should wear a tuxedo or a dark suit. Tickets are required, and at least one person from each couple must be a member of the Senior Class.
Commencement Exercises will be held on Thursday, June 13, at 8 p.m. Each graduate will be given three tickets.
It is required that every senior attend the final exams, marching practice, the cap and gown pick up, the Honors Assembly, and the Commencement Exercises.
