Student Council
Is There Life After Birth?
Student Council has once again found a new president in Jeff Dennis, and once again there are the same promises of change. Past presidents have tried to breathe life into Student Council, but so far their hands have been tied.

To a freshman or sophomore these promises may give them some hope that Student Council can do more than make investigations into why we can or cannot have a bubble gum machine. Those of us who have been around know better.

It is not the fault of any member of Student Council nor any member of the school staff that this situation exists, for Student Council is only as good and as active as the administrative and policy decisions of District 207 let it be.
If the administrators of District 207 realize that Student Council can be a vital functioning part of the school, then it will be a success; if not, then it must resign itself to investigating bubble gum machines.

For several years interest in Student Council has declined. While the people involved may care, often the students whom they are representing do not. This condition is experienced to some extent in all the Maine schools.

If Student Council continues to have a tight leash kept on it by policy decisions in District 207, then it will continue to be little more than a puppet. There are so many things Student Council could do - if it is given the chance.
