did you know ?
Did you know that on Maine West's Warrior Day, March 28, Phil Beuschlein '76 wore a Sioux Indian Costume with headdress? He created it himself for Indian dancing. Phil hand sewed and embroidered the entire outfit, which took three weeks to finish. His grandmother taught him how to sew.

Students understand more about themselves and their own country after they have experienced life in other countries. Did you know that the Youth for Understanding program makes it possible for 15-17 year old students to live in other countries for either a summer or a year?

In the last 23 years the program has placed over 43,000 students in 50 different countries. For more information on the program write to: Youth for Understanding, 2015 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104.

Did you know that Janet Henrickson '77 had a poem published in American Girl magazine? The poem is entitled "Jazz Notes." Her English teacher is Ms. June Muckle.

The Westerner would like to make some corrections concerning the last issue's "Did You Know?" Mr. Daniel Silkowski, English Department chairman, wrote an analysis of Lord Jim, not the book itself, as was inferred.

Mr. Silkowski also wrote in the fall issue of the Kentucky English Bulletin an analysis of Sherwood Anderson's short story, "The Egg." In the Illinois English Bulletin he wrote an article explaining how to use crossword puzzles as teaching devices. In the English Journal Mr. Silkowski analyzed Nelson Algren's short story, "A Bottle of Milk for Mother." He also wrote an article on Lord Jim.
