Cindermen Capture First League Title
Do you remember how good the cindermen were doing at the time of the last issue? Well, they've done even better. The Warriors have just completed an undefeated season and have won the Central Suburban League title, the first ever won in the 13‑year history of outdoor track at Maine West.

As one coach put it, "They got a whole stable full of horses." The Warriors, excellence was so great that on May 7 they won the Central Suburban South Division at Glenbrook North by 36 points, 96‑50.

When you look at some of the scores from recent meets, you know that a great team has been competing. On April 23 the Warriors hosted Niles East and sent them home with a 117-23 loss. There was definitely no home court advantage on April 30 when the cindermen whipped Niles North, 114-26. But the team's greatest throttling of another school came on May 2 before a home audience. For their efforts that afternoon, Deerfield went home with a pitiful total of eight points. Meanwhile Maine was racking up an incredible 100.
The track team was not without its superstars this year. Senior Bill Klippert captured his seventh conference title in the hurdles in four years, and Coach Ron Brown had some well‑deserved words of praise for him. "He may be one of the greatest Maine West athletes ever. I know," said Coach Brown, "of no other high school athlete who has accomplished this."

To fully understand the magnitude of Klippert's title winning efforts in this year's outdoor track season. you must remember that he was just coming off a broken leg that made him miss the indoor season. If you look in the Tribune today, you will find an article highlighting senior Dave Braun. Dave's best event was probably the three consecutive jumps, which was new this year.
