As the old saying goes, it was a beautiful day for a ballgame. Arriving at the "park" a few minutes before the scheduled start of the game, I was startled to find that the opposing team had not shown up yet. As I was wondering what the official score of a forfeit would be, however, the visitors arrived.

I soon overheard their coach commenting to a visiting fan, "Our bus was 25 minutes late."

"Chalk another one up for the bus companies," I thought. And the game finally started.

The home team's most prominent pitcher was on the mound, but after a few batters it was easy to see that he just didn’t  have it. His misdeeds gave the starting third baseman the rest of the day off, though, as a relief pitcher was brought in and the starting pitcher moved to third.
The game went into the bottom of the second inning with the home team trailing 5-0, as the only ones that the relief pitcher was giving relief to was the other team. The deficit was cut to four, however, when the catcher pushed a grounder through the third baseman's legs with a runner on second and two outs.

All in all, it wasn't a very good day for the home team. The most intriguing part of the game was guessing who would be assigned to chase the last foul ball which had been hit across the street. Terrible as they may have seemed, though, it was only an isolated case in I the normal routine of the team.
