Q. If a student has a job and earns his own money, can the parents take away all of his money and spend it themselves?

A. Unfortunately, yes. Parents are entitled to all of a minor child's earnings, since a minor is not considered competent to handle his own estate. The parents could even require that the student's wages be paid directly to them.

Of course, things change once the student turns 18.
