Homecoming Festivities
Get Under Way
The 1973-74 Homecoming has finally arrived with plenty of excitement in store for everyone. This year's Homecoming theme is "Spirit That Won The West," and presiding over the weekend activities will be nine Maine West senior girls chosen for the Homecoming Court.
This year's Homecoming Court includes Sue Barham, Kris Beedy, Joan Bevaqua, Vicki Richardson, Laurie Scheuneman, Carol Slivka, Adrienne Sczcygiel, Kim Thompson, and Patti Wagner.
All of the girls appeared to react the same way to their nomination. They all found their newly appointed roles as being a pure shock and surprise.
On Saturday, October 20, float building began. From Monday, October 22, through Thursday, October 25, Homecoming Queen elections were held in the auditorium.
Today during second period there was a Homecoming assembly in the spectator gym. All students and faculty were urged to attend. School will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m. so that the parade can get under way at 3 p.m.
The parade will leave Maine West and travel through Des Plaines. The Homecoming Court will be in cars, and there will be several floats displayed. All four classes along with various clubs will enter floats in the parade.
The climax of the weekend comes on Friday night, as Maine West faces Niles North on the Warrior grid. The sophomore game will begin at 6 p.m., and at approximately 7:30 p.m. the parade will circle the stadium. The class and club floats will be on display at this time.
At 8 p.m. the varsity squad will begin their fight against Niles North. The coaches and team express optimism and feel that this is "our year for a real victory."
The highlight of the varsity Homecoming game will be the announcement of the 1973-74 Homecoming Queen at halftime. The Maine West Marching Band will also partake in the halftime festivities with a salute to the "Days at Maine West."
Saturday night, October 27, will be the finale of the Homecoming weekend. The dance, "An Old‑Fashioned Picture Show," will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. Tickets are now on sale in the bookstore for $3 per couple. The dance will feature "Dixon," and refreshments will be served.
