Harriers Capture CSL Crown;
Six Given All-Conference Honors
The tradition of the Maine West Cross Country team is being carried on like it has never been carried on before. Under the leadership of Joe Paul '75, the depth of the team compares with the best teams in the area.

The harriers have defeated Fremd and Maine East, which are two of the top state contenders. The team's only defeat came at the hands of Conant by a close score of 23‑36.

The Warrior varsity also defeated Oak Park, Niles East, Glenbrook North, Ridgewood, Forest View, Niles North, Highland Park, Deerfield, New Trier West, and Libertyville.

At the Libertyville Invitational, in which 11 teams participated, Maine West defeated Fremd 46-50. Going into this meet, Fremd was rated number two in the state. Joe Paul '75, Paul Frost '74, Kevin Skahan '74, Greg Klebe '74, and Glen Oland '74 were only 20 seconds apart finishing 6, 7, 9, 11, and 13, respectively. They buried the 3, 4, and 5 runners of Fremd for the victory.
In the conference meet on October 20 Maine West had a let down as they finished second to Niles West by one point. In over all competition, though, Maine West won the league championship.

There are six all‑conference runners. This shows the quality of the team. All‑conference honors were awarded to Joe Paul, Greg Klebe, Paul Frost, Paul Mademann, Glen Oland, and Kevin Skahan.

The coaching staff which is headed by Mr. William Barringer and Assistant Coach Ross Blake have gotten the most out of the squads as shown by their impressive records.

The records stand with the varsity 20-1, sophomores 18-3, and the freshmen 18-3.
