Maine South Supplies Opposition
As Soccer Playoffs Begin
Going into conference play-off action, the Maine West booters have a record of 5-7-2. On October 16, the team was defeated by Niles West, 3-2. On a Friday night home game against Deerfield, the team tied 3-3. In action against Niles North on October 9, the Warriors were the victims of a 2-0 shutout.

The booters were on the right end of a 1-0 game against Niles East, who ranked eighth in the state but were crushed behind the power of first-rated New Trier West, 7-0. The Warriors also were skunked 4-0 by archrival Maine South on October 2.

Some of the outstanding players of the past few games were Bill Georgepoulos, '75, who is the team scoring leader, Steve Niles, '74, and Pete Solarz, '75. The team opens conference playoff action against Maine South on October 19 and 20.

Congratulations are certainly in order for Coach Ronald Brown's sophomores. The team recently finished the season with the best record in the four year history of the soccer program at Maine West.
The booters ended this year's competition with a record of 11-3 and have only allowed the opposition to score 12 times against them.

"They are definitely going to place in the top two or three in the playoffs and stand a good chance of sweeping the whole tourney," said Mr. Brown. "Much of the team's success has come from just working together, but a great deal of credit is due to Greg Koeller, '76, Glen Watson, '76, and Steve Johnson, '76. These players have been outstanding at their positions with Koeller scoring 17 times, Watson five, in addition to playing excellent defense, and Johnson, who has tallied seven times.

On October 16 the team defeated Niles West 4-3. Home action under the lights saw the team beat Deerfield 2-0. The Warriors took a loss against Niles North on the ninth, 3-1, after beating Niles East at home, 2-0. New Trier West and Maine South inflicted home defeats upon the team, New Trier winning 4-1, while our friends from Dee Road shut out the team by a score of 1-0.
