Students To Perform
'The Mikado'
Drama II and Speech Arts students will present 'The Mikado," written by Gilbert and Sullivan, some time in December for English classes wishing to attend.

The students have been practicing during class and after school and whenever they have time. They hope to use this production as the contest play in January and February.

The Mikado, who is the King of Japan, has a son named Nanki‑Pu. He runs away to look for the girl he loves called Yum‑Yum. He finds her in the country of Titi‑Pu only to find out that the Lord High Executioner, Ko‑Ko, intends to marry her. The plot of the story revolves around the perils of Nanki‑Pu and Yum‑Yum trying to escape from Ko‑Ko.
Two casts are assigned for the parts in the play. The main parts of cast one are Nanki-Pu, Eric Helgeland '76; Ko‑Ko, Neil Loewe '74; Yum‑Yum, Vicki Richardson '74; Pooh‑bah, David Franks '74; and The Mikado, Mike Wood '74.

The major parts of cast two were assigned to Nanki‑Pu, David Franks '74; Ko‑Ko, Bob Callerman '75; Yum‑Yum, Megan Peterson '77; Pooh‑bah, Cathie Hoffstedt '74; and The Mikado, John Dalin '75.

One reaction to the play was offered by Vicki Richardson." It has taken us a long time to put it together, but it should be really good when it's performed because it's a different kind of humor."

Neil Loewe says, "It's coming along really nice. It's interesting to be doing a play and see how it is to perform on stage."
