Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
How come Student Council never gets recognition in any event held at this school? During Homecoming, the Westerner had an article about all of the girls who were trying to be the next Homecoming queen. It also told where and when the parade was going to be throughout our city. This is all very fine, except for one tiny detail. There was no mention of Student Council. Without Student Council there would have been no Homecoming queen or a parade nor even a Homecoming game. At the pep rally held second and third periods, October 26, there was not a single word said about the Student Council's very hard effort to make our Homecoming another big success.

I couldn't believe it when I read the article on this year's V‑Show. Student Council got a seven word recognition. The article said, "The show is produced by Student Council." Hurray!! Wow, seven whole words.

Without Student Council many events and services would not be given to Maine West. There would be no Homecoming, V- Show, student calendars, Dialtones, dances, and even better food in the cafeteria.

Dear Editor:
|I would like to commend and express my gratitude to Mr. James Coburn for including in his presentation to the student body the purpose behind the Homecoming tradition.

In his address of October 26, 1973, I was presented with the explanation of Homecoming for the first time in four years. It is a shame that people can get so carried away with tradition that the meaning is forgotten.

It was nice not only to observe the Homecoming festivities this year but to understand them as well.

Dear Editor:
At the Homecoming assembly the cross country team received honorable recognition for the fine job they have done in bringing home trophies, setting records, etc. One student thought that it was necessary to complain because Mr. Coburn singled this team out over the Maine West football team. Well, isn't every fall assembly we have for the football team? Until recently every fall pep bus we have had was for the football team.

The cross country team deserves the recognition they got at the Homecoming assembly perhaps more so than the Maine West football team. The only enthusiastic thing the football team did today was pop their eyes for the songstress. When asked if they'd win the Homecoming game, they replied, "I dunno." Well, I don't know why every fall assembly has to be for them either.
