Colloquium Club Organizes
Bigger, Better Activities
The Colloquium is a student club designed to provide honor students in Social Science with opportunities for extra‑curricular activities related to the social sciences.
Students who have received departmental honors or who are currently receiving an "A" in any Social Science course are eligible for membership. Since the students involved in the Colloquium and the two sponsors, Mr. Charles Dunn and Ms. Mary Gienko, agree that the election of officers is actually a popularity contest, they have agreed to have it purely ad hoc. That is, a student volunteers his services for the planning of future events.
The club is for those students who are interested in Social Science and is geared toward all the Social Science courses.
The Colloquium acts to provide the Social Science Department with more information about student needs and feelings. It also works to support the Social Science Department Awards Tea and the Maine Historical Society.
Already this year they have held a debate on the problem of the "Energy Crisis," featuring Mr. John Nugent and Mr. Vernon Stenoien taking opposing sides. The debate turned out to be a very interesting and informative experience.
They have met on several occasions to discuss the future events of the upcoming years.
The first field trip will be a religious tour of Chicago conducted by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, on Tuesday, November 13.
