Bucketmen Prepare
For Home Opener
The customary tip‑off from center court will begin the 1973-74 season for the fighting Maine West bucketmen. The Warriors will meet Forest View in the home opener, scheduled for November 21 in the Herman L. Rider Memorial Gymnasium.

Although the team has only two returning lettermen, John O'Connor and Doug Myers, who are both seniors, Varsity Coach Gaston Freeman said that he expects great things.

"The big question," Mr. Freeman said, "is the team's defense. You can't win if you haven't got good defense. It's the name of the game." One of the Warriors' advantages is that they will have lots of competition for each individual position and great shooting from the outside.
Mr. Freeman remarked that the team's main goal, of course, is to win the championship and also to better last year's record. The netmen barely finished the season over .500 last year, finishing with a 13-12 record.

Rounding out this year's coaching staff are Mr. Robert Goerne, assistant varsity coach, Mr. Donald Talbot, sophomore coach, and finally Mr. James Forsythe, who coaches both A and B levels of the freshmen.

So if you want plenty of fast paced, exciting thrills, come on out to the spectator gym on the twenty‑first and watch the Warriors launch another season of Maine West basketball.
