Bucketmen Drop Opener In
Overtime to Falcons
The Maine West varsity basketball team opened their season on a losing note with back-to‑back losses to Forest View and Arlington.

The Warriors played the Forest View Falcons at home on Wednesday, November 21. The Falcons played a rough, physical game and defeated West 55-53 in overtime.

The most important factor in Forest View's victory was their continued success in breaking the Maine West full-court press. This left the Warriors facing 2-on-1 and 3-on-2 situations, which are difficult to stop.

The bucketmen were hurt by the lack of outside shooting, as the Maine West percentage was .335 from the floor, according to the team manager. Doug Myers '74 was a bright spot scoring 19 points.

The Warriors trailed by two buckets late in the game when Myers hit a clutch basket. That put the game into overtime, but Maine could score only once in the overtime period.
The Warriors then played a strong Arlington team last Friday. Arlington used an inside-outside punch to beat the Warriors, 58‑43.

The Maine West five were hurt again by poor outside shooting. But the key factor was Maine's' inability to connect from the free throw line.

Arlington's 6'9" center Dan O'Donohue scored many baskets from the inside and Jeff Cleveland was a terror from the outside.

The Warriors could only hit three of 19 shots from the free throw line.

On other levels, the junior varsity lost to Forest View, but beat Arlington. The sophomores lost to both teams.
