VOL. XV, NO. 5
Thespian Play Will Be Performed
in February
The Thespian play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds, is directed by Mr. Robert Norris.
The tryouts for the cast were held December 18 and 19 in L-101. The play is open to any girl interested. The cast will consist of five girls.
Mr. Ron Mills, speech chairman, explains this by saying, "This play was chosen because it offered the opportunity for the girls to participate in acting, since Guys and Dolls, this year's musical, has mainly male roles."
Practice for the play will start immediately after the Christmas vacation. The play will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, February 14, 15, and 16. For the various stage crews, sign-up sheets will be posted outside of L-103 after the holidays.
The play is mainly about, as Mr. Norris puts it, "A young girl growing up in an urban area and how her life is influenced by her mother and older sister." The main role, according to Mr. Norris, is the mother, Beatrice.
The stage will be extended into the seating area of the auditorium creating a 3/4 round stage. The house is expected to hold 100 to 150 people each night.
The play was written by Paul Zindel. It has won the Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award as best American play of the season.
