Are Two More Days
Too Much To Ask?
Christmas vacation begins today and classes will resume on Thursday, January 3. Why not the following Monday? Student Council's effort to secure a few more days of vacation deserves commendation.

January 6 the nation goes back on day light saving time. The institution of gas rationing is under consideration. The energy shortage is serious and the winter has just begun.

As the snow deepens and the mercury drops, fewer students walk or ride their bikes to school. The effort to get to school during the winter consumes more gas than during any other time of the year.
Two days would not be that big a sacrifice for any of us. There are a certain amount of snow days set aside each year that are rarely used anyway. Actually, it has been figured that some of us have built up approximately 50 unused snow days since entering Des Plaines schools.

Obviously, the shutdown of the Maine high schools for a couple of extra days would not have much affect on the current crisis, but small efforts do add up to significant ones.
