Gymnastics, Outlook Getting Better
The gymnastics team celebrated their first meet on Friday, November 30, defeating Addison Trails 108 to 86.01. However, their luck was different when they faced the Glenbrook South squad as they were beaten 112.19 to 75.97. The freshmen were also defeated 31.2 to 23.9. Individual highs that night were Mark Schludt '74, floor exercise - 7.2; Steve Taylor '74, highbar - 7.05; and Ken Heller '74, trampoline - 7.2.
Last Friday at Glenbrook North the gymnasts lost by a score of 107.36 to 86.16. Saturday they were again defeated 109.97 to 80.2 at Prospect.
Coach Sidney Drain has hopes for a good season. He said, "It's going to be a strong rebuilding year, using a lot of underclassmen." One of the team's 10 varsity members, Kevin Henderson '74, said, "The team is coming along very well. All we need is a little more spirit on the team and from the spectators."
Coach Drain commented, "We have good high scoring gymnasts but lack in the second and third place scorers. If Ken Heller is back competing and the team improves on some weak spots, they may have a chance."
