Wrestlers Encounter
Maine East Tonight
The varsity grapplers began their season by choking the Prospect Knights, 47-12, on November 21. After resting for 10 days the team travelled to Morton West and proved themselves to be rude guests, winning 28-16.
One week later the Warriors escaped with their third straight victory, a 23-21 squeaker over the Cowboys of New Trier West.
This year the fighters have started their streak in the face of several injuries. Coach Dick Carlini stated that the Warriors are a young, aggressive team but that they still are prone to making crucial mistakes.
The sophomore squadron of wrestlers are also off to a good start, carrying a record of 4-1. The team, coached by Mr. Erv Geisler, is trying to break the record number of pins established by last year's freshman team. That number is 51, and the sophomores already have 14. Coach Geisler said that the real test of the team's strength was to have come on December 15, when they faced Proviso East. Unfortunately, Proviso made a clean sweep of the Warriors, winning on every level.
The freshman squad, under the guidance of Mr. Bill Barringer, have a 3-2 record thus far. They dropped their first two competitions by identical scores of 31-33.
