Set For March Debut
Tryouts for Maine West's annual musical production, Guys and Dolls, were held January 7 through 10. Call backs were held January 11 and 14.

The singing tryouts were held in R-207. The judges were Mr. Donald Lord, Mr. Robert Kuite, and Mr. Theodore Varges. Tryouts for speaking parts were held in the auditorium and judged by Mr. Ronald Mills.

The Broadway musical Guys and Dolls is based on Damon Runyon's characters, who are lower class people of New York, such as gamblers, chorus girls, and street vendors.

The play revolves around gamblers who are looking for a place to hold the world's biggest crap game and then end up holding it in the sewer.
The lyrics and the music used in the play were written by 'Frank Loesser, and the book was written by Joe Swerling and Abe Burrows. Some of the songs in the musical are "Bushel and a Peck," "Luck Be a Lady," and "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat."

There are five main characters in the play, Sky Masterson, Nathan, and Detroit, all gamblers. Sara is the hot box girl and Adalade is the mission girl. Throughout the production the dolls have to put up with the guys' gambling.

Clinics for the dance chorus will be held on Monday, January 21; and tryouts will be held the next day. The student choreographers are Carol Slivka '74, Debby Jacunski '74, and Diana Burman '74. The faculty adviser is Mrs. Susan Gelz. Clinics and tryouts will be held in the dance studio.
