Sophomore Wins Chess Championship
Norman See '76 recently won the Chess Club's chess championship. About 12 students meet once a week with the club's sponsor, Mr. Harold Connell, to play chess.
Write for the Westerner
Anyone interested in writing for the Westerner may simply sign up for journalism when registering for next year's classes. The class is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Class Puts on Play
Mr. Philip Kardasz's fundamental speech class presented a play in the Little Theatre (L-101) recently.
The title of the play was "The Law Takes Its Toll," and it was centered around convicts in jail with one of them sentenced to the electric chair. The purpose of the play was for the students to express emotion through their voices.
Speech and Drama Field Trip
Speech and drama classes will be going on a field trip to the Woodfield Theatre Wednesday, February 6, to see the play, The Cherry Orchard.
During December the students went to the theatre to see The Iceman Cometh. Any speech or drama student who did not go on the other trip or pay for the trips at the beginning of the year, and wish to go on this trip may get in touch with Mr. Daryl Schultz about a ticket. The price will be $2.50.
Band Concert to be Held
The Concert Band, the Intermediate Cadet Band, and the Maine West Jazz Band will have a concert Sunday, February 3, in the auditorium. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to come. Music Booster membership cards and faculty passes will be honored. Otherwise, the price will be $1.
Quad Council Meeting
Quad Council had their latest meeting on Wednesday, January 9. A final exam proposal was brought up. This proposal asked that final exams not be mandatory and that the giving of finals was left to the discretion of the teacher. Quad Council should get an answer to this proposal sometime this month.
