Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
We, the elves that made up the Christmas show for the faculty's children, were very disturbed at the parents' behavior. Even though some of the parents and teachers listened attentively to our program, others made unkind and unnecessary remarks. We were not there to entertain the parents but only for the children's benefit.

The Elves of Child Care

Dear Editor:
Why should swimming be mandatory for senior girls? The girls' physical education department will argue that it is required because it can save lives. I don't question this fact.

But after three years of participating in this part of the gym program, anyone who is capable of learning to swim will have. Also, using this rationale, shouldn't self‑defense be required also?

In addition, January graduates were not required to take swimming during the first semester. Therefore, I feel that seniors graduating in June should also be given a choice.

Dear Editor:
We think that an award‑winning newspaper like the Westerner should be complete in its coverage and include results of all sports. The Maine West swim team successes were not printed for the meets against Elk Grove, Proviso East, Prospect, and Maine North. The last three of these meets, Proviso East, Prospect, and Maine North, were consecutive victories. Prospect's was an upset. We are one of Maine West's teams and deserve to be put in the Westerner. If the Westerner is a school newspaper, it should cover all school sports including swimming.

Maine West Swim Team P.S. The fact that names, events, and class year are also misprinted is very annoying to the swim team, as well as other teams and the readers.
