Formidable Foes Prove Troublesome;
Bucketmen Manage 1 Win in Last 5
Action resumes in full force this weekend for our basketball Warriors, as they face Niles West at home tonight and travel to New Trier East for a non‑conference game tomorrow night. The team has had a rugged schedule this season, as shown by the fact that they have managed only one win in their last five games.

Dropping a close one at the hands of Glenbrook North on December 21, 82-81, Maine West opened its part in the Niles Township Christmas Tournament on December 27 by edging Niles East in a thriller, 58-57. As it turned out, the tournament lived up to its name for the Warriors, at least, as they ended up facing the other two Niles schools in their final games, losing to Niles West, 68-63, and Niles North, 80-71. Last Friday night the bucketmen dropped a tough game to Deerfield, 63-56.

One major objective of the Warriors was accomplished against Glenbrook North, a s they held Spartan Ted Govedarica, who had scored 90 points in his first three conference games, to just 17 points. Unfortunately, Spartan forward Jack Moeller's hot hand in the fourth quarter spelled the Warriors' undoing.
Holding a 10‑point halftime lead in their tournament opener against Niles East, the Warriors saw that lead slowly dwindle until, with just a handful of seconds remaining, they had possession of the ball while training by a single point. Getting the ball into their front court quickly, the final pass went to Dan Myzska '74, who hit a runfling jumper from about 16 feet out to give the Warriors the win.

The results of the following two games, however, were not quite as satisfying for Maine West fans. Against Niles West the numerous drives down the lane by guard Marty Block shot holes in the Warrior defense, with Block himself scoring 24 points.

In the battle for third place against Niles North, the Vikings took command of the game quickly, although a persistent Warrior attack in the fourth quarter brought the final deficit down to nine points.

As it turned out, Maine West was represented on the All-Tournament team by Steve Zuccarini '75, who scored 52 points in the three games. Scoring leader in the tournament for the Warriors was Glen Heiden '75, who tallied 57 points, including his personal high of 24 against Niles North.
