VOL. XV, NO. 7
Gymnasts Crunch Maine North
With but three meets left in their season the gymnastics team has no chance of a winning season. On January 18 the team was defeated by Niles North, 110-95. The Warriors fared no better in the next night's competition losing 116-89 to Wheeling.
Niles West met the team on January 25 and once more gave them the taste of defeat, this time by a 135-97 score. The Warriors finally regained their winning form against the hapless Maine North Norsemen in a 102-79 victory.
Coach Sid Drain said that the team is progressing about as expected, and that some individuals are progressing well. Marc Schuldt '74, for example, is the team's highest scorer, working on the trampoline and doing floor exercises. Steve Taylor '74, is excellent as an all-around man, and sophomore Pat Dent is showing lots of talent doing floor exercises. Working on the rings, Jim Coburn '75 and Rick Paulsen '75 are showing remarkable progress and potential.
Maine West will host the district championships on February 21. Among the schools competing for the championship will be Elk Grove, East Leyden, Forest View, Maine East, Maine South, and of course, Maine West.
