Girl Gymnasts Place Second
The Girls' Gymnastics Team concluded its season with a 7-4 record and a second place tie in the South Division of the CSL.

Highlights during the regular season included an 8.05 on the uneven bars by Carol Cahill '74, an 8.10 by Ellen Vana '75 in free exercise, and an 8.53 scored Dottie Gallucci '75 in free exercise.

In the league meet held on February 1-2 at Highland Park were Nancy Franklin '74 and Linda Blume '76 on the uneven bars, Gail Kaechele '74 and Joan DeLaet '76 on the balance beam, Ellen Vana and Dottie Gallucci in vaulting and free exercise. Competing all around was Kim Thompson '74.

Maine West placed two girls in the finals of the league meet. Kim Thompson was awarded a 7.67 on the uneven bars, and Ellen Vana recorded a Maine West individual high score of 9.10 in free exercise. Ellen Vana finished in seventh place; after her optional routine, Kim Thompson placed eleventh.

"The team was weakened by the absence of Carol Cahill '74, who broke her hand in competition late in the season," explained Mrs. Judy Beck, the girls' gymnastics coach. Carol had consistently scored first or second on the uneven bars, balance beam, and in vaulting all season.
The success of this season for the Girls Gymnastics Team is due largely to seniors: Bernadette Binder, Carol Cahill, Nancy Franklin, Sue Jobst, Gail Kaechele, and Kim Thompson.

Other winning gymnasts of the season were Ellen Vana, Dottie Gallucci, Joan DeLaet, Noreen Barry '76, Linda Blume, Jill Heiden '77, and Robin Gulden. Also included were Gayle Grzebieniak '77, Linda Vilkaitis '76, Nancy Caccaitore '77, Megan Peterson '77, and Laura Taylor '77.

"With the hard working girls who should return to the team next season, we could have an even more successful season," commented Mrs. Beck.

A gymnastics demonstration will be presented by the Girls' Gymnastics Team on April 5, at 7:30 in the Herman L. Rider Memorial Gymnasium. The demonstration will feature all levels of gymnastics, beginners through advanced members of the squad. The public is encouraged to attend.
