Apply for Scholarships

Applications for legislative scholarships awarded by State Representative Eugenia S. Chapman of the Third District are now available.

Mrs. Chapman will be awarding four scholarships to Third District residents. Each will be for two years, and will cover tuition and some fees. Two of the scholarships will be awarded to students planning to attend the University of Illinois, and two will be awarded to those students planning to attend any other state‑supported colleges.

These applications must be returned directly to State Representative Eugenia Chapman, 16 South Princeton Court, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60005, by Wednesday, April 10.

A scholarship committee will evaluate the applications and make recommendations to Mrs. Chapman.

Help the Hotline

The Maine Township Hotline is sponsoring a training program of lectures and discussions for prospective volunteers who would like to help others in the community. Participation will not obligate anyone to become a volunteer. Applications will be accepted from those who complete the program. High school seniors are often accepted as volunteers.

If anyone would like further information and/or wish to take part in the program, he may call the Maine Township Hotline at 825-0860 between 4 p.m. and midnight.

Rah- Rah- Rah

Sophomore cheerleading tryouts will be held on Thursday, March 21, with clinics on March 18, 19, and 20. Varsity tryouts will be on Thursday, March 28, with clinics on March 25, 26, and 27.
Board Member Dies

Mr. E. Hoy McConnell, a member of the Board of Education of Maine Township High School District 207, died February 19 at Lutheran General Hospital.

Mr. McConnell was elected to the high school Board in April of 1965 and was re‑elected again in 1968, serving until April of 1971. While he was a member of the Board he served as president, vice president, and chairman of the Education Committee.

Energy Crisis and You

County Schools Superintendent Richard J. Martwick would like to know how the energy crisis affects you as a student. In 50 words or less you have a chance to offer any suggestions you might have in conserving energy. You might want to comment on the new early morning darkness and how it affects you. Julie Named Correspondent

Miss Julie McCannon a junior here at Maine West has been named the Co-Ed Correspondent for the 1973-74 school year. Co-Ed is a nationally published scholastic magazine for home economics students; it contains articles on fashion, food, beauty, and fiction.

Awards Night

There will be a Winter Sports Award Night on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Basketball, swimming, wrestling and gymnastics participants will be honored.
