A Smile Goes a Long Way
By JANET TEEVANS

On March 6 a very exciting event supposedly took place. This certain day of the year is a day set aside to show your appreciation of your teachers.

It's a day when you show our teachers you really love and care for them, especially the one who helped you get a "D" on your report card. This grade may not have been the teacher's fault entirely, but then who in their right mind is going to confess that they actually deserved that grade.

Ways in which students show their appreciation are really limitless. Some of the ways are bringing your teacher a shiny red apple or a juicy orange, preferably without any worms: or a small batch of goodies, such as cookies, or candy, not snakes and frogs. One simple way is just going out of your way to be extra‑special nice to those wonderful people who endow us with their appreciation, such as homework and tests.

This day really should be observed by the entire student body, sadly enough only a few seriously respect this day.
Teachers are really wonderful and human. Human is included because some students seem to feel teachers should never make mistakes. Those students should try standing before a class in which good behavior is a difficult concept.

Appreciation of these fine teachers is really deserved. They not only teach, but they try to get as totally involved with their students as they possibly can.

There are always going to be students and teachers who just don't hit it off. This, of course, is not a justifiable answer to completely quit trying. As hard as teachers try to provoke their students to try to study, there are always a certain few who just can't.

It seems that if a student enjoys a class he will do fairly well. If that same student gives not a second thought of trying and flunks that class he will do everything in his power to disturb the rest of the class and make it more difficult for the teacher.

As I said previously, teachers deserve appreciation - enough to show that they have really accomplished something. The next time you bump into your teacher or just see them try to brighten their day with a smile and a cheerful hello. That may be just the thing they need to send the inner glow streaming through their hearts.
